The Beginning

It all began when Dan came to me with an idea. He asked me what I thought about owning and operating a hot dog cart.
I wasn't sure at first, but then, I realized with his knowledge of business and my experience in food service, this could be a great thing. Also, living in Brevard County Florida, a cart isn't something you see everyday, yet many people come from places where they are accustomed to seeing them everywhere. So we set out to research anything we could find about mobile food vending. Who knew there was so much to know!

First, we searched for used carts and got pricing information. With shipping costs, it just wasn't effective to obtain one from out of state and we didn't have the mean (trailer tow hitch) to pick one up in Florida, so we ended up having one custom made locally. We ran into a few snags and the cart took longer than anticipated. The problem with that was while we were waiting for it to be finished, we set out canvassing our area for locations and had some set up. The company creating our cart provided us with a smaller loaner cart so we could begin working.

Our first location was Sky King Fireworks fourth of July weekend. They have big buy one get one sales for the holiday and the place is crazy! We had lots and lots of sales and enjoyed ourselves the whole time. From there, we scouted and obtained many more locations. Meanwhile, we had already filed for our licenses and got our cart completely finished and ready for inspection.

3 months later, we are finding ourselves getting busier and busier, which is a good thing! We are just waiting and holding out for that ONE great location that allows us to be there everyday and not have to move around so much.

The next step would be to be making enough money where we can purchase a second cart (or more!) and Dan not having to work for anyone else but himself. That would be the best!
